Michael Holmes-Lauder has played with Nasty Shadows a number of times over the years, lending his considerable multifarious talents both on/off-stage. Some behind-the-scenes work by Michael helped make these shows possible: This Is A Play, Here Lies Henry, Play, having begun his Nasty work with 2008’s productions of House and The Dumb Waiter. On stage, Michael was seen in the spring 2009 production of Orestes 2.1 as the title character, and was part of the cast that helped create Scott Shannon‘s The Table Experiments in spring 2011. Some other highlights of his theatrical career include work with Theatre UNB, TNB, Saint John Shakespeare, Bard in the Barracks, NBActs, and others. In the fall of 2014 Michael assaulted audiences with his ‘Ariel’ in Rougher Magic: A cubist Shakespeare, and for Movember 2015 he once again pryed into the minds of the audience in the adaptation of Brief Interviews With Hideous Men.

Game to try just about any theatrical thing, Michael has been invaluable in the various explorations into creating new works, from the aforementioned The Table Experiments to the current work on A Story Jones.

Michael has proven to be a Shadow influencing the work at a fundemental level in all the theatrically Nasty areas you can imagine — the Company is lucky to exploit his talents.

Scott Shannon has been performing and/or directing shows for Nasty Shadows since co-founding the Company in the Summer of ’99 — 15 years ago. Directing credits include: Geography Of A Horse Dreamer (2008); This Is A Play (2007 & 2010) and Marion Bridge (2009), the Company’s adaptation Orestes 2.1 (2009), Pinter’s The Dumb Waiter (2008 & 2010), and Beckett’s Play (2010), in which he also performed the part of ‘M’. April 2011 saw Nasty Shadows debut Scott’s first original work for the stage, The Table Experiments. Other on stage credits: ‘Jerry’ in The Zoo Story (1999); ‘Caliban’ in Rougher Magic (2000); ‘Clov’ in Endgame (2004); the single (or many) character(s) in the following one-man MacIvor shows: Wild Abandon (2007), House (2008); Here Lies Henry (2010); Monster (2011), and as ‘John’ in David Mamet’s Oleanna. After a year hiatus in 2013 Scott was thrilled to perform again last year, along with the challenge of directing, in the remount of Rougher Magic: A cubist Shakespeare, a play which has had lasting impact on his theatrical mindset. Last Movember Scott had the thrill of performing/directing the work of another writer who has had a profound impact on him with the staged adaptation of Brief Interviews With Hideous Men by David Foster Wallace — an experiment to see how well the interviews translated to the stage with an audience instead of a reader, which seemed to work VERY well … and might warrant revisiting again.

Scott couldn’t be more excited than to be focusing theatrical time with Matthew and Michael, like a Garage Band, the three of them are continuing work on A Story Jones, in tribute to a Shadow who disappeared into the light.

He thanks the casts/crews for all of their hard work over the years and for enduring his tangential rants, and thanks you the audience for your support of the Company.

Matthew Spinney is an amateur actor and civil servant, who among other things has been in a number of plays over the years in various companies. With Nasty Shadows Matthew has played ‘Gus’ in Pinter’s The Dumb Waiter and returned to the role for a second time a couple years later. With other groups Matthew played the role of ‘Constantine’ in Len Falkenstein’s Free/Fall which was produced for the Vancouver Fringe festival, and you might also remember Matthew from Bard in the Barracks as the ‘Porter’ in Macbeth. For Nasty Shadows Matthew has also played ‘Male Actor’ in Daniel MacIvor’s This Is A Play a couple of times, and stepped into the director role for MacIvor’s Here Lies Henry. Tooth of Crime (2nd Dance) found Matthew bringing ‘Crow’ to life in a powerful performance, and his last appearance on stage in The Art of Success was no less commanding in the face of baring it all or running in a skirt. Returning to the Shadow world in the fall of 2015 Matthew revealed the most HIDEOUS details of three troubled men in the staged adaptation of Brief Interviews With Hideous Men.

Having also been part of The Table Experiments creation process and performance, coupled with his extensive acting and directing experience, Matt becomes a key partner in the next Shadow phase, now having joined the ongoing project, A Story Jones.

Matthew is delighted to have been a part of Nasty Shadows these past few years, and the Company is stronger thanks to Matthew’s drive and strength on and off stage.
